Chawan Tea Bowl - Speckled
We call it a tea bowl, but it is truly a vessel to be used as you see fit. Hand thrown by Andrew Durham. No two alike, one of a kind, always unique.
Andrew's work is hand thrown stone wear. In his words ... My throwing technique produces very light elegant forms - never clunky. I am highly influenced by Asian tea drinking culture where no handles are used and each cup comes as a unique creation sometimes referred to as chawan "tea bowl" or yamuni "tea cup". Chawan has recently become popular with people who drink matcha, but can be used for any warm beverage including loose leaf tea. As a family we have taken a liking to using our smallest tea bowls as serving dishes, our large tea bowls as traditional "bowls" and our tumblers as wine vessels.
